Knowing God heals today is half the battle in trusting Him for your healing breakthrough. The second half is knowing the word that confirms it. In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, the Bible says, “All scripture is given by God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” For us to succeed in our walk, we need to possess all that we need to run and finish the course that has been laid before us. In Mark’s Gospel 7:24-27, Jesus converses with a Gentile woman. In the course of the conversation, He tells her that healing is the children’s bread. This is our constant present victory over every disease that attacks us. In order to finish the race to the full, we need to know healing is for today and for us today. With this in mind, let’s look at 3 basic principles from the word that encourages us to pursue the healing that belongs to the believer.
[1] Healing is in the Covenant
In Exodus 15:26, God tells the children of Israel in the beginning of their journey through the wilderness, “…If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right is His sight, give ear to His commandments, and keep His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought upon the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.” Not only is this a continuous thing, but it is the first covenant that God gave to them. It was proven at the 1st Passover when all the sick and feeble amongst them were healed (Psalms 105:37). What makes this covenant permanently available is found in Isaiah 53:3-5. In this chapter of Isaiah, the prophet speaks of the Messiah who was to come. “Surely He has borne our griefs, And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we ARE healed.” This spoke of a future event that would fulfill and confirm the covenant that was made in Exodus. This was fulfilled in Matthew 8:17, when Mathew states by the Holy Spirit “that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet He Himself took our infirmities and bore our diseases.” This makes healing now available for you because Jesus fulfilled the promise of healing and showed us that the scripture in Isaiah was for healing, and that healing has been paid for.
[2] Jesus Healed All
In Acts 10:38, as Peter meets a Roman Centurion, the strength and beginning of the message that he speaks to the man is “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed of the Devil, for God was with Him.” The dynamics of the Gospel message is that Jesus has delivered us from all the work of the wicked one. This also declares that sickness is from the devil himself and is connected to his kingdom. 1 John 3:8 says, “…For this purpose was the Son of God manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Remember, all sickness is a result of the fall and connected to Satan’s kingdom. But, in Matthew 12:22-29, the Bible tells the story of a man who was demon-possessed, blind, and mute. Jesus not only cast out the devil but healed the man so that he both spoke and saw. When he was challenged about casting out devils by Satan, Jesus said no kingdom divided against itself will stand. So, if I by the finger of God cast out the devil, then the kingdom of God has come. This shows us that disease is connected to a spiritual battle, and that the kingdom of God is greater than the kingdom of darkness. In John 10:10, Jesus states, “The thief does not come but to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that life more abundantly.” How can we have the God-kind-of-life in us and think that healing isn’t for today? The God-life is God’s kingdom dwelling in us. And when His kingdom is dwelling in us, it has the power to drive out all that is attached to the devil’s kingdom, and that includes all sickness.
[3] Receiving Healing
In Matthew 8:1-3, the Bible says that when Jesus had come down from the mountain, a man covered in the incurable disease called leprosy ran to Him, fell at His feet to worship, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me whole.” Think about this: the man had full faith that Jesus could completely heal every part of his body and drive this disease off him. The only question was if Jesus was willing. Jesus’s answer showed the Father’s perfect will not only for the man but for all that come to him with faith. Jesus said, “I am willing, be made whole.” Mark 10:46-52 records the story of a man called blind Bartimaeus. This man had been blind since birth and spent his life begging for food. He hears that Jesus is coming and begins to cry out, “Jesus Son of David, have mercy on me!” Bartimaeus understood who Jesus was, and what He could do. When people told him to be quiet, he hollered all the more. He hollered till Jesus heard him and then called the man to Him. He asked the man, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said “Rabboni [Great One], that I would see.” Jesus said, “go your way, your faith has made you whole.” We see that not only is it God’s will for you to be healed, but it is your faith that He both can and is willing to heal is what will move the hand of God. Jesus asked him what he needed then responded simply, “according to your faith.”
Believer, God’s healing power is always flowing from Him to us. He is always willing and delighted to break all of Satan’s kingdom off your life. This includes all diseases. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Healing truly is the children’s bread, and it now comes to us to be willing to believe according to Ephesians 3:20. The scripture states, “He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we can ask or thing, according to the power that is working in us.” To know that God both can and is willing to heal us, strengthens our resolve to pursue Him till we have not only the desire of our hearts, but also the desire of His.
